Fiorentina Sign Defenders
Fiorentina have completed the signings of Juan Manuel Vargas and Gianluca Comotto. The defenders were brought in to aid the teams challenge to qualify for the Champions League group stage. Vargas was reportedly interesting some of the bigger teams in Europe such as Manchester United and Real Madrid. He was happy however to sign for Fiorentina and have a first team place guaranteed. Gianluca Comotto will return to the Viola after already having spent a disappointing 6 month spell on loan earlier in his career. He said “Now i want o show Fiorentina supporters who is the real Comotto”.
Bend it Like Beckham
Here’s a great one in the database of good football movies. Bend It Like Beckham, which refers to David Beckham’s trademark kick that “bends” the ball past the goalie and into the goal, is a rather recent release: The release date was August 1, 2007 in the United States.
It is a good British comedy, also, which stars Parminder Nagra (who plays Dr. Neela Rasgotra in the hit TV show “ER”), Keira Knightley (known for numerous roles, including Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean, Guinevere in King Arthur, and Lizzie Bennett in Pride and Prejudice), and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (who plays King Henry VIII in the Showtime original series “The Tudors” and Louis Connelly in August Rush, among other characters in other movies).
The story is simple: “Jess” (Nagra) is a girl in a Sikh family in England who loves football (soccer in America), but she feels tied down by her ultra-traditionalist family. She finds a friend, “Jules” (Knightley), who invites her onto a girls’ football team. So, she tries to go around her parents to play the sport she loves. Full of drama, humor, and a simple passion for the game, Bend It Like Beckham gives a powerful lesson: if you just have passion and willpower, you can succeed at just about anything…even a seemingly insignificant football match!
A couple of warnings: The rating is PG-13, for sex and nudity (there are a couple of sexual innuendos, as well as quite a bit of kissing, and a mistaken homosexual encounter), violence and gore (mostly confined to the football field, but some slight in-home violence), profanity (some derogatory terms towards certain groups of people – specifically, Indians and homosexuals, as well as quite a few cuss words), people drinking and smoking cigarettes, and quite a few issues that should probably be reserved for teens 13 and over.
Overall, I think this was a great football movie, and any teenager would love it, football fan or not.
Waggery Hits Bookshelves!
Waggery Hits Bookshelves, TV Screens, and Board Games
The WAGs epidemic is certainly not showing signs of slowing down. It is invading every crack and hole of our daily lives. There is no escaping it. So why don’t we just embrace it, right?
As if we are not sufficiently bombarded by WAGs news and gossips in tabloids and blogs, there are authors who felt the need to publish books about these ladies, who are fast becoming celebrities in their own right.
If you’re curious enough to hit the bookshelves, you can actually find several books about WAGs and Waggery — some are actually very entertaining. You may buy or more or all to tickle your fancy. But don’t miss these two highly recommended books here:
1. A WAG’s Diary – Written by Alison Kervin, the story revolves around the life of fictional WAG by the name of Tracie Martin, who was in pursuit (read: stalking) of her idol, the ultimate WAG herself, Victoria Beckham. The novel is crafted to tickle one’s funny bone, aside from giving the reader an intimate peek into the life that a typical WAG lives.
2. A WAG Abroad – Allison Kervin’s second book, a sequel of the first. Here, Tracie Martin is back with her hilarious escapades in The City of Angels, LA (and still tracking down her idol, Victoria). Like the first book, this one is an easy read and hard to put down.
The life of famous WAGs has been the inspiration behind the fictional drama series, Footballer’s Wives. The TV show depicts the life of young wealthy couples trapped in the glamorous and treacherous world of football. It also shows how WAGs influence the life of their footballer husbands. The show resembled reality so much that many were hooked to the show.
And yes, Waggery has also caught up with the reality TV trend, having its own reality show called WAGs Boutique, where two teams composed of real-life WAGs supposedly compete in running fashion stores over three months for a chance to design her own fashion line. However, Krystell Sidwell, who won the first WAGs Boutique series, never got her prize and got a column in Reveal Magazine instead. Whatever happened to that? Hmmm…
Wait! We’re not finished yet. When you think you had your fill of Waggery, think again. How about a game of Monopoly, WAGs style? Yes, a WAGs edition of the popular board game is now out in the market. It’s interesting really. Instead of burning cash on buying business establishments and streets and train stations, players may splurge on beauty saloons, high-fashion boutiques, and everything a little WAG needs. So while their boyfriends and husbands play some ball, the WAGs themselves can play some Monopoly on the coffee table — a perfect avenue to catch up on the latest gossips, fashion trends, and so on and so forth.
Who will Win Russia or Israel?
The British sports television channel Sky Sports has urged Englishmen to support Israel in an elimination match of Euro-2008 against Russia on 17th November and has developed a special blitz-guide for fans about Israel and the Israelite football. “How to support Israel” this was a title of the special section on the site of popular satellite sports television channel, which will broadcast the game from Tel Aviv. Englishmen will have a chance to pass in a final part of the European Football Championship 2008, only if Israel does not lose from Russia or if Macedonia wins against Croatia that is improbable.
Englishmen have already led their matches with a Near-Eastern command the result in March of this year was 0:0 and in September the representatives of Albion have won with the result 3:0.
According to the site, the fans in Britain, undoubtedly, wish to support the command of hosts, because the hopes of England to pass the qualification for Euro-2008 are relied of fact that Israel in Tel Aviv will make goals to Russia. Skysports.com offers British men a management on support of Israel.
Also here it is specified that the present trainer of Israelite team, Dror Kashtan has come instead of his predecessor Abraham Grant, when he could not deduce the command in a final part of the World Championship in 2006. Now Grant trains the London football club of “Chelsea”.
The most probable candidate for making a goal in a match with Russia according the Sky Sports is the 25-year-old Argentinean player Roberto Damian Colautti, who plays for the German club Borussia Monchengladbach and for the national team of Israel, having three passports — Argentinean, Italian and Israelite.
The site also quoted the words of the former player of Israelite national team Ronny Rosenthal, who considers that his country has all the chances to win against the team of Russia. Many players will aspire to prove themselves in their best condition in hope that English clubs will notice them.
Rosenthal noted that Israelite players use their best efforts to achieve positive result in this crucial match. As they are professionals, they wish to proof their qualities. They don’t forget that this match will be broadcast in England by Sky sports channel, that’s why many of them, who wish to play in English Football teams, will show all their abilities, in order to be noticed and liked. That’s why we can expect high-level play from them.
On the other hand, the Russian Football team also prepares for the challenge it will meet on November in Tel Aviv. The players are motivated to win this game and their hopes are directed to the victory. In the temporary classification, the team of Croatia is in the first place with 26 points from 10 matches before the English National team, which has 23 points from 11 matches. Russia is in the third place with 21 points from 10 matches. After the defeat of England from Russia, English team has small chances to continue the competition in Euro 2008.
