Spurs target Foster as long term replacement for Brad Friedel
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly lined up Ben Foster as as long term replacement for Brad Friedel. American stopper Friedel, Spurs’ first choice keeper during the 2011/12 campaign, is already 40 years old and Spurs are planning for the future by trying to lure Foster to White Hart Lane from Birmingham City. Spurs’ second choice keeper is Carlo Cudicini, no spring chicken himself either.
Foster, a former Man Utd player, is currently on loan at West Bromwich Albion from the Blues. He has currently made himself unavailable for international selection but a good run at Spurs could see him jump back into the fray and challenge the likes of Joe Hart and Robert Green for the national jersey.
Redknapp- Gomes still has future at Spurs
Harry Redknapp has said that error prone Brazilian keeper Heurelho Gomes still has a future at White Hart Lane. The former PSV stopper has lost the No.1 jersey at Spurs to new signing Brad Friedel and also seems to have surrendered the backup jersey to Carlo Cudicini.
However Redknapp has stated that the door is not shut on Gomes with the Brazilian set to start in goal when Spurs play PAOK in the Europa League tonight.
Gomes has had spells of both brilliance and eccentricity at White Hart Lane, forcing Redknapp to look for a more stable goalkeeper in order to bolster his club’s chances in finishing in the Champions League spots.

Brad Friedel leaves Aston Villa to join Tottenham Hotspur
American goalkeeper Brad Friedel has agreed to join Tottenham Hotspur from Aston Villa, the London club have announced. Friedel, whose contract with Villa is ending later this month, was not short on offers, with Villa themselves wanting him to stay. However he chose to make Spurs his destination for next season and will fight it out with Heurelho Gomes and Carlo Cudicini for the No.1 jersey at White Hart Lane.
Friedel has a wealth of Premier League experience, having represented Liverpool FC and Blackburn Rovers prior to his Aston Villa switch. The arrival of the 40 year old has further fanned rumours that error prone Brazilian Heurelho Gomes is set to return to PSV Eindhoven this summer.
Friedel has agreed to sign a two year deal with Spurs, who finished 5th in the Premier League last season and will be competing in the Europa League this season.
